Aside from the Fire Chief, there is also a Deputy Fire Chief, two Training Officers, three Assistant Chiefs, six Captains, fifteen Engineers, twelve Fire Fighters, and an Office Manager. Of these personnel, approximately three are EMT-Paramedic certified, and approximately thirty-seven are EMT-Basic certified. Fire Department functions include fire fighting, hazardous material response, BLS emergency medical service, vehicle extrication, search & rescue, code enforcement, fire prevention education, equipment testing, and other endeavors that assist the city. The Marion County Ambulance District operates the community’s EMS system.The Fire Department operates three pumper engines, two ladder trucks, one mid-size rescue vehicle, a host of various support vehicles, and two rescue boats. The department has done an excellent job of maintaining the quality and modernity of its fleet and equipment. All ranks from Assistant Chief and below (excluding the Office Manager) are members of the International Association of Fire Fighters, Local 1211.
