Thank You for Helping the Hannibal Fire Fighters Raise Money for the MDA
Fill the Boot Drive

The Hannibal Fire Department and the IAFF Local 1211 teamed up to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) in Downtown Hannibal. Union members past and present from the Hannibal Fire Department volunteered during the annual Fill the Boot Drive at the intersection of Third Street and Center Street one weekend in August. The group of volunteers consisted of on-duty, off-duty, and retired members of the HFD. The generosity of the Hannibal community was outstanding as it allowed the fire fighters to raise a total of thirteen hundred dollars for the cause. All of the funds collected go to the MDA which conducts worldwide research efforts to eliminate over forty neuromuscular diseases. The MDA also provides summer camps for children, professional and public health education, and other related programs. (August 2011)

The Hannibal Fire Department Completes Local Hazardous Material Training
Hazmat Training

The Hannibal Fire Department and Hannibal Board of Public Works teamed up to conduct a hazardous material (HAZMAT) class on site at the Waste Water Treatment Plant. Each shift of the HFD completed the class over a three day period. The training focused primarily on the chemical Chlorine which is routinely used at the treatment facility. The class provided the opportunity for the HFD members to become familiar with the building, equipment, and procedures used by the BPW to handle the chemical during its use at the plant. The training also contained use of the Incident Management System, HAZMAT/WMD Response Unit, Class A chemical suits, and emergency repair tools for the Chlorine tanks on site. This type of focused training keeps the HFD more proficient with mitigating potential HAZMAT emergencies specific to our community. (June 2011)

September 11th Patriot Remembrance Day

Patriot Day Ceremony
We shall never forget all those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001. The events that occurred that day changed our nation and our lives forever. Our fallen brothers and sisters did not die in vain. As a result of their sacrifice, the United States of America stands stronger. We have proven to the world our national resiliency and dedication to defending freedom. The Hannibal community came together on Patriot Day this year to remember and honor our fellow Americans who have lost their lives as a result of the cowardly acts of terrorism. Past and present members of the United States Military and homeland emergency services were also given appreciation during the ceremony. The service was hosted by American Legion Post 55 at the Marion County 911 Dispatch Center in Hannibal where a cherished piece of the World Trade Center is now memorialized. (September 2011)

Santa Clause Visits Fire Station Three

Santa Clause
The Hannibal Fire Department and IAFF Local 1211 send Santa Clause an invitation to visit the Hannibal Community at the fire house each year. On December tenth, Santa took time out of his busy pre-Christmas schedule to stop by Fire Station Three to talk with the local kids. Santa gave them the opportunity to tell him what they would like for Christmas and to pose for a personal picture together. Mrs. Clause sat close by and offered candy to each of the boys and girls. Firefighters served cookies, popcorn, soda, and hot chocolate after each child's visit. As soon as all of the children had spent time with Santa, he made his list, checked it twice, and was gone as quickly as he had arrived. HFD Firefighters would like to give special thanks to Santa, Mrs. Clause, and Ms. Elf; as well as to the generous local sponsors, whose support helped make the event a success. (December 2011)
